On Sunday, October 21 from 7:00pm-8:30pm in RPAC Multipurpose Room 3, we will be hosting our third annual Flow and Glow! Flow and Glow is a fun, glow-in-the-dark themed yoga class in which we have raffle prizes, focus on empowerment, and learn about how menstruation can be a barrier to girls receiving education. According to the Global Partnership for Education (2012-2016), the top 10 barriers to girls’ education include the following:
Social and cultural factors
Opportunity cost of schooling
Lack of separate toilets for girls and boys
Lack of female teachers
Violence at school or on the way to school
Direct cost of schooling
Distance to school
Low value placed on girls’ education
After the success of the first Flow and Glow in 2016, we have continued to host this event every year and it has become one of AWOW’s flagship events. We ask for a $12 online donation prior to the event or a $15 at-the-door donation as your ticket to enter. In the past two years, we have collectively raised over $2000. All the money collected is donated to Days for Girls International, a nonprofit organization that provides sustainable feminine hygiene products for girls in 110+ countries.
Each ticket purchase provides one additional girl with a feminine hygiene kit that will last her 2-3 years. This means you are saving her from 4-6 months of education that could have been missed! We would love to have you join us to empower these girls to continue their education and to pursue their dreams of becoming doctors, lawyers, teachers, and businesswomen. If you would like to donate and/or learn more about the cause, please check out our fundraising page: https://donate.daysforgirls.org/awow2018.
